Harpenden to St Albans linear

Ramble: 3416. Meet: Harpenden station (Herts) AL5 4SP 11.17.  Distance 7.5 miles. Lunch: The Engineer, 12 St John’s Road, Harpenden AL5 1DJ (GR TL141131) 12 noon.  Travel:  Thameslink train (final destination Bedford) from St Pancras International (Platform B) at 10.51, London Bridge 10.35 and East Croydon 10.21. Freedom Pass Boundary is Elstree & Boreham Wood.  Fare is £7.70 return to Harpenden with Freedom Pass and Senior Rail Card.  Return from St Albans City (on the same line) – trains about every 15 mins. A green and pleasant walk linking one Hertfordshire town with a Hertfordshire City.  Walking through attractive common land, a country estate and approaching St Albans through the old town passing the Roman museum and remains with a chance to visit the Cathedral.   Good gravel and tarmac paths for about half the walk.
