We walk four miles (approx. 1hour 45 mins) from Theydon Bois station on good paths through Epping Forest to the Kings Oak pub. The afternoon walk is 2.5 miles to Loughton station. Apart from some road walking when we leave and approach the stations the walk is all off road – although they are never far away. No drop out points other than taxi from the pub.

At the end of the walk we will take the 251 bus back along Totteridge Lane to the tube station Leader: Laurie 07811 588 988. A parkland walk with no steepness or stiles but which can be wet underfoot following rain\, taking in some pleasant countryside on the Northern edge of London. A 4 mile walk to the lunch stop after which those that wish to drop out can take the 240 bus to Edgware or Golders Green. After lunch a walk of a further mile back to Totteridge Lane for the 251 bus back to Totteridge tube station. Those that have more energy can continue the walk following some of the Dollis Valley Greenwalk and the London Loop for a further 3.5 miles to the station. (A self guide map can be provided for those that wish that).

(If anyone wishes to walk back to Speakers’ Corner the distance is c0.8 miles). Given the location plenty of drop out points.

Approx 2.5 miles.  After lunch we head towards Bookham following tracks through Oaken Wood and onto the Common where we find the station. Again about 2.5 miles but can vary according to weather or light! Trains 41 minutes past the hour for trains to Effingham and trains to London  OR 16.18\, 16.48 17.18 18.05 from Bookham also towards Wimbledon and London with no change. Bus 479 is hourly to Guildford and half hourly to Leatherhead with more London trains. For those wanting a pub you can do a detour to the  Olde Windsor Castle\, Bookham. Food orders for lunch will need to be placed via Liz by Sunday 19 Nov.

Lunch is at one of the Times Top Ten unspoiled pubs in England\, though with a limited menu it is full of character. Beautiful countryside which will be skirted after lunch circling back to the station by 5pm. Trains back to London run half hourly and take around 70 minutes. (Fare for specific trains\, with Senior Railcard\, around £12).

Return trains from Reigate to Victoria. Buy a Return ticket for Dorking. Freedom Pass boundary: Ewell West (or East).  (Anyone missing the Victoria 10.11\, catch the 10.16 and change at Clapham Junction for the 10.33.) Leader: Marion 07748 185 367. The walk is along mainly flat terrain as we are south of the Surrey Hills AONB and close to the River Mole valley. In the afternoon we have the opportunity of refreshments at the Skimmington Castle. At Betchworth\, the railway station is a mile north of The Dolphin. Otherwise\, no other dropout points.  Trains back to Victoria every half an hour on the hour or half hour.

There are views of the nature reserve one side and container ships and other shipping on the river-side. 4 miles before lunch. After lunch we will head inland via farmland and some road walking back to the station. 3 miles after lunch. The route is predominately flat. There is a bus service from the lunch pub back to East Tilbury station. \n

Travel:  (via Thameslink) Finsbury Park 10.07\, St Pancras International 10.15\, London Bridge 10.30\, East Croydon 10.47.  Within Freedom Pass boundary.  Trains back to St Pancras and Finsbury Park every 30 mins from 4.39 with trains to East Croydon and London Bridge more frequent.  Leaders: Linda (07879 335 445) and Tony (07823 557 285).  From the Eastern exit at the station we are quickly at Farthing Downs with good views of Cane Hill Water Tower and Old Coulsdon. Following along the edge of Boxers Wood we get to the unusual village of Netherne-on-the-Hill and then Chaldon Church.  From here lunch at Coulsdon Common and then a pleasant walk along open hillside with views into Happy Valley\, hopefully in full wildflower\, and eventually back to Farthing Downs and the station. \n

We walk through meadows with plenty of wildlife\, wild flowers\, and renowned for the many varieties of willows along the route. In one of these meadows Sir John Millais was said to have painted the background to his picture ‘Ophelia’. Trains home from Ewell West station.  \n

Recommended trains are Victoria 11.08 fast to Clapham Junction 11.15.\, or\, from London Bridge\, Southern (Plat 13)\, 11.10\, or\, Thameslink (Plat 4) 11.15. Return from Kenley station. All within Freedom Pass boundary. Leader: Peter C 07528 716 569. We leave East Croydon station for New Addington by the first tram after 11.30. We walk 2.5 miles to The Harrow. After lunch we walk 3.5 miles to Kenley station. At the very start of the walk there is a relatively steep\, but short\, descent on a made-up path followed by a longer but gentler ascent that shouldn’t be too much of a challenge. Mostly off-road. There is an hourly bus service from The Harrow to Upper Warlingham station. At the half-way point of the afternoon walk there is a frequent bus service to Sanderstead Station and onwards to Croydon (Fairfield Halls for EC station).

We alight at the Petersham gate and walk along the flat path to the Ham gate. Then there is a small hill leading to Isabella. Here we will have time to walk around and admire the azaleas. Then we will head towards the pub for lunch. After lunch we will walk back to Richmond via Ham House and the river. All flat. Walk is about 2.5 miles before lunch. Those wanting to join at lunchtime it’s the 65 bus from Richmond alighting at the Ham gate and its at the junction.
