Beautiful countryside which will be skirted after lunch circling back to the station by 5pm. Trains back to London run half hourly and take around 70 minutes. Within Freedom Pass area. \nLeader: Ann 07948 500 518 \nThe walk starts through Crayford town but soon comes to green fields taking us down to walk beside the River Cray which we follow for 2.5 miles to Bexley for lunch. Afterwards we walk through pleasant meadows and fields beside the river emerging after a further 3 miles to a drop out point at Foot’s Cray with frequent buses to various stations for onward journeys to London. Otherwise we stay on the route for a further one mile to emerge at Queen Mary’s Hospital in Sidcup to catch a bus to Sidcup station. This is a flat and easy walk and surprisingly rural in many places.

No particular difficulties (other than the usual runners and cyclists).  Possible to drop out after 4 miles at Brentford by bus or train [after lunch].

The property was bequeathed a few years ago to Bamber Gascoigne;  it is the setting for the popular BBC comedy series ‘GHOSTS’. It’s hoped that a tour of its special garden can be arranged\, the spring flowers are apparently something to behold!  Terrain mostly level\, with few stiles\, etc.

On leaving Guildford station the walk climbs up to the castle with its very pretty gardens and then there is a further short steep stretch up to the top of Pewley Down with magnificent views. The route takes us down into the valley where we pick up the North Downs Way and eventually walk past the National Trust Shalford Mill. The morning walk is 3.4 miles with the afternoon being slightly shorter and mostly along the River Wey.

After lunch we re enter the park and continue clockwise back to Roehampton gate and Barnes Station. 3 miles before lunch 2 after.

We walk four miles (approx. 1hour 45 mins) from Theydon Bois station on good paths through Epping Forest to the Kings Oak pub. The afternoon walk is 2.5 miles to Loughton station. Apart from some road walking when we leave and approach the stations the walk is all off road – although they are never far away. No drop out points other than taxi from the pub.

At the end of the walk we will take the 251 bus back along Totteridge Lane to the tube station Leader: Laurie 07811 588 988. A parkland walk with no steepness or stiles but which can be wet underfoot following rain\, taking in some pleasant countryside on the Northern edge of London. A 4 mile walk to the lunch stop after which those that wish to drop out can take the 240 bus to Edgware or Golders Green. After lunch a walk of a further mile back to Totteridge Lane for the 251 bus back to Totteridge tube station. Those that have more energy can continue the walk following some of the Dollis Valley Greenwalk and the London Loop for a further 3.5 miles to the station. (A self guide map can be provided for those that wish that).

(If anyone wishes to walk back to Speakers’ Corner the distance is c0.8 miles). Given the location plenty of drop out points.

Approx 2.5 miles.  After lunch we head towards Bookham following tracks through Oaken Wood and onto the Common where we find the station. Again about 2.5 miles but can vary according to weather or light! Trains 41 minutes past the hour for trains to Effingham and trains to London  OR 16.18\, 16.48 17.18 18.05 from Bookham also towards Wimbledon and London with no change. Bus 479 is hourly to Guildford and half hourly to Leatherhead with more London trains. For those wanting a pub you can do a detour to the  Olde Windsor Castle\, Bookham. Food orders for lunch will need to be placed via Liz by Sunday 19 Nov.

Option to shorten the walk from various stations along the route. Also an opportunity to walk the 1.3 miles out to the end of Southend Pier (and possibly to take the pier train back).  \n

Leader: Rosemary 07486 081 775 This walk is on the borders of Surrey\, Hampshire and Berkshire and is almost entirely flat with just a couple of gentle slopes. The walk takes us by both the Blackwater river and the Basingstoke Canal as well as deep in the woods. There are no stiles but a few flights of steps. The morning section before lunch is quite short

Freedom  Pass boundary: Surbiton. Leader: Laurie 07811 588 988. A walk that shows some of the Hampshire Hangers/Hills\, without having to ascend them. Lunch is at one of the Times Top Ten unspoiled pubs in England\, though with a limited menu it is full of character. Beautiful countryside which will be skirted after lunch circling back to the station by 5pm. Trains back to London run half hourly and take around 70 minutes. (Fare for specific trains\, with Senior Railcard\, around £12).

Outside tables if warm enough. Travel: Either from Victoria 10:11\, Clapham Junction 10:18 (Dorking 11.07); Or Waterloo 10:24\, Vauxhall 10.27\, Clapham Junction 10:33 (Dorking 11.14). Return trains from Reigate to Victoria. Buy a Return ticket for Dorking. Freedom Pass boundary: Ewell West (or East).  (Anyone missing the Victoria 10.11\, catch the 10.16 and change at Clapham Junction for the 10.33.) Leader: Marion 07748 185 367. The walk is along mainly flat terrain as we are south of the Surrey Hills AONB and close to the River Mole valley. In the afternoon we have the opportunity of refreshments at the Skimmington Castle. At Betchworth\, the railway station is a mile north of The Dolphin. Otherwise\, no other dropout points.  Trains back to Victoria every half an hour on the hour or half hour.

Freedom Pass boundary: Upminster. Leader: David M. 07929 075 722.  From the station we make our way to the Thames estuary to walk south toward Coalhouse Fort. There are views of the nature reserve one side and container ships and other shipping on the river-side. 4 miles before lunch. After lunch we will head inland via farmland and some road walking back to the station. 3 miles after lunch. The route is predominately flat. There is a bus service from the lunch pub back to East Tilbury station. \n

After lunch walk back to Tattenham Corner Station via Walton Downs and Epsom Downs. An undulating walk with Langley Vale Wood providing ancient woodland\, chalk grassland\, diverse flora and fauna and with views over rolling hills.  \n \n \n
