It is of special scientific interest and home to rare wild flowers and grasses. \nThe walk follows the west bank of the River Roding for 3 miles to the Railway Tavern at Buckhurst Hill. The return is 4 miles on the east side of the river and follows paths through the site of the old Chigwell RAF station. Good paths with only slight inclines.

From the summit\, the walk follows the marked trail around the top (where there is a café)\, and then descends to the pub and station via a choice of routes. Well-known views all the way.
