We will avoid the steep climb out of Aldbury and instead take to the open countryside to the north before turning west at Ashridge. The return leg offers contrasting hilltop views to the west and south and then woodland. Apart from a short stretch out of Tring station the walk is off-road.

It is of special scientific interest and home to rare wild flowers and grasses. \nThe walk follows the west bank of the River Roding for 3 miles to the Railway Tavern at Buckhurst Hill. The return is 4 miles on the east side of the river and follows paths through the site of the old Chigwell RAF station. Good paths with only slight inclines.
