After lunch it follows the River Roding back to Woodford. Although the walk is mainly on established paths they can be quite muddy.

Frequent return trains to London Waterloo from Kew Bridge station. All within Freedom Pass boundary. Leader: Rosemary 07486 081775. This is a walk ideal for a January day being flat and very easy. We start along the River Crane changing almost immediately to the Duke of Northumberland’s river which we take toIsleworth where it flows into the Thames. We then walk through Syon Park and on our exit pick up the Thames Path to reach Kew Bridge. There are no stiles and plenty of drop out places on the route.

For those who just want lunch and a walk and not the pub elements we should be back at Highgate around 14.45 to start the pub based walking then. Frequent ‘drop-out’ points in Highgate between pubs. Walk Highgate to Muswell Hill via Parkland walk and Queens Wood and return to Highgate via a different route (inc Highgate Woods) after lunch. Following that we will explore about 4 of the local Highgate pubs walking from one to the next and taking in the occasional blue plaque and points of note along the way and availing ourselves of some liquid refreshment in the pubs. \n

SUMMARY:West Drayton to Slough linear (Grand Union Canal walk)
DESCRIPTION:Ramble: 3405. Meet: West Drayton station UB7 9DY 11.16. Distance: 7 miles. Lunch: The Swan\, 2 High Street\, Iver\, SL0 9NG (GR   TQ039 812) 12.30. Travel: Paddington 10.56 (allow time to walk to one of the distant platforms). Return from Slough. Within Freedom Pass boundary. Slough\, TfL trains only – minutes past hour 15\, 26\, 45\, 56. (GWR (fast trains) require a ticket to West Drayton.) Leader: Peter C on the day 07528 716 569. A walk that lacks the challenges that some of us look forward to as it is completely flat – not even a lock gate. For the most part we walk the Slough arm of the Grand Union Canal. The tow path is either tarmacadam or stony but there may be puddles if recent rain. We walk 2.2 miles to The Swan and then 4.8 miles to Slough station. To complete the walk before dusk we must leave The Swan by 14.00. Drop out points at Iver and Langley for train service. If weather is uncertain\, we will make it a circular walk back to West Drayton from The Swan (approx. 3 miles).

Hourly return trains and Freedom Pass boundary is Surbiton. Leader: Rosemary 07486 081 775. This is a walk deep in the Surrey Hills and with far reaching views especially from the pub at lunchtime. It is slightly uphill before lunch but all down afterwards. There are about 3 stiles and a couple of rather nasty road crossings over the busy A25 but it is a mainly rural walk.

A pleasant walk through the beautiful Chilterns from Chorleywood Common\, over The River Chess (Chalk stream) and uphill to the village of Sarratt via a Norman church. After lunch we walk through picturesque countryside via watercress beds on our journey back to Chorleywood with a libation for those suffering from dehydration near the station. There are two moderate climbs\, one morning and one afternoon.

Leader: Marjorie 07547 232 812. After leaving Canada Water the walk goes through Southwark Park\, along Bermondsey Wall to Shad Thames and the historic pub (2 miles). After lunch it crosses Tower Bridge and follows the Ornamental Canal to Shadwell and Limehouse Basins. The walk proceeds to Tower Hamlets’ Cemetery Park which is one of the seven great cemeteries. The walk ends at Mile End Underground Station (Central\, District Lines)\, There are good paths and plenty of drop out points after lunch.

Contact: Linda (07879 335 445) or Tony (07823 557 285) \nA walk in a rural stretch of Enfield passing through Hillyfields Park to follow the old course of the New River up to Forty Hall Estate\, to stroll around the walled garden before returning downhill to follow the Turkey Brook to visit Myddleton House Gardens before lunch. These extensive gardens were once home to the gardener\, Edward Bowles and should be at their best in Spring  Continuing after lunch past Capel Manor\, along Whitewebbs Lane and through Whitewebbs Wood back to the station.  There is a moderate climb to and from Forty Hall and mud can be encountered.  Opt-out at lunchtime possible from Turkey Street Station about 20 minutes walk away.

DESCRIPTION:Ramble: 3392. Meet: Camden Town Underground Station (Northern Line) at 11:30\, to finish at Blackfriars Underground Station (District and Circle Lines). Distance: 4.75 miles. Lunch: The Barrel Vault (Wetherspoons)\, Unit 23\, St Pancras International Station\, Euston Road\, N1 9AL. (GR301833). Both stations are within the Freedom Pass area. The morning distance is about 2.25 miles. \nGuide/flavour of walk: short/urban with some enjoyable areas\, like the hustle\, bustle & colour of Camden Town\, then the old towpath along Regents Canal\, hopefully a park at St Pancras\, then the course of the River Fleet south from Kings X.\nThe pub is very spacious\, with an outside dining area. When I did the recce\, the instructions were to test & trace\, and to order from your table. I noticed a max of 4 places at some tables\, but the guy hinted that\, if things are quiet on the day\, maybe 2 tables could be pushed together outside. This is a leisurely walk with frequent stops to explain the route of the canal etc. The lunch stop is roughly halfway.

There is a short section along a road. The route goes through Mercers Country Park and surrounding wetland nature reserves. These extensive gardens were once home to the gardener\, Edward Bowles and should be at their best in Spring  Continuing after lunch past Capel Manor\, along Whitewebbs Lane and through Whitewebbs Wood back to the station.  There is a moderate climb to and from Forty Hall and mud can be encountered.  Opt-out at lunchtime possible from Turkey Street Station about 20 minutes walk away.

The walk ends at Mile End Station by about 16.00.
