Morning walk follows part of the London Loop for 3.5 miles going through Hadley Green and Monken Hadley common. After lunch we take a circuit around Trent Park Country Park (approx. 4 miles) to finish at Oakwood LU station(Piccadilly Line). The lunch venue is close to Cockfosters LU station so it would be possible to join for lunch or depart post lunch if desired. Some inclines involved in the ramble morning and afternoon.

There is also a Greater Anglia train from Liverpool Street at 10.58 arriving at Cheshunt 11.18. Return: London Overground trains every 30mins. and frequent Greater Anglia trains. Leader: Marjorie 07547 232 812. This is a lovely walk through the River Lee Country Park. It is flat and uses good paths. There are many lakes in the River Lee Country Park and it is a waterbird sanctuary. The lakes are formed by the Lee Flood Relief Scheme. The 2 mile morning walk to the pub passes Boyers Water\, Cheshunt Marsh and the Whitewater Centre to the River Lee. The pub is a short distance away in Waltham Abbey. This is a Charter Town and the final resting place of King Harold 11. After lunch the walk follows Waltons Walk and the Horsemill Stream to Fishers Green. It then follows parts of the Otter and Waterbirds Discovery Trails beside the Seventy Acres Lake to the River Lee and Cheshunt Station.

Journey times from Bond St. 47 minutes\, Liverpool St. 35 mins\, Mile End 31 mins\, Stratford 28 mins. Return from Cheshunt by London Overground – within Freedom Pass Boundary. Return from Cheshunt by Greater Anglia\, Freedom Pass Boundary Enfield Lock. Leader: Peter C 07528 716 569 . A longer walk that is predominantly off-road. We enter woodland at its nearest point to Epping station and head towards Bell Common. Then join the footpath at Ladderstile Farm and head towards The White House\, skirt Copped Hall and reach Upshire after 3.5 miles. The afternoon walk is 3.5 miles. We walk through Warlies Park\, pass the brick Obelisk and head towards Breaches Farm. After the Trig Point near Monkhams Hall (a short rest and views of the London skyline) we drop down to Crooked Mile Road then head towards Lee Navigation for the final stretch to Cheshunt station. Drop out point at The Horseshoes where the bus-stops outside the pub serve either Epping or Waltham Cross (Greater Anglia only). The afternoon walk is relatively gradient-free and retains its interest until the very end.

Further out from London than usual but the rewards are an off-road walk through the attractive Rother Valley\, which is still divided up into fields. We walk towards Robertsbridge via Squibs Farm and on to Salehurst for lunch. We return to Etchingham via Beech House Farm. Drop out points at Robertsbridge or by taxi from pub. Join the Group at Robertsbridge Village if you catch the train an hour later.

This walk follows the part of the London Loop and the Dollis Brook Greenway. Mostly level but with some steep climbs There are many stiles\, kissing gates\, stairs and foot bridges. There is field edge\, farmland\, woodland and also road walking involved. There are various drop out points to catch buses including from the lunch venue. Approximately 4 miles pre-lunch and 4 miles post-lunch. \n

The first part(1) is 5 miles but has a long uphill ascent to get to Ranmore Common- this would be mainly suitable for stronger walkers. \n\nThe second part(2) after lunch is 3.5 miles and generally flat and not too testing\, being along the banks of the River Mole for the latter part. \nDescription (1):\n \nA 5 mile walk before lunch via NT Chalk downs\, Ranmore Common\, and Ashcombe Wood and circling Denbies Wine estate before descending into Westhumble for lunch.\n \n\nDescription (2): \nAfter lunch a pleasant 3.5 mile stroll along the Mole Valley (which can sometimes be rather wet if recent rain occurred) and Norbury Park to Leatherhead (where options are for beer or tea). \n(Dropout point after lunch or shorter start point before lunch is Westhumble. Trains arrive there from London at xx.11 and depart from there back to London at xx.40 once an hour. Travel: Charing Cross 10.40; Waterloo East 10.43; London Bridge 10.49 (A fast train to Sevenoaks. Do not catch the Sevenoaks train that runs six minutes earlier.) Freedom Pass boundary Knockholt. Leader: Peter C 07528 716 569. The walk comprises 4 miles to the lunch venue and 4.2 miles back to the station and does involve a bit of walking through the built environment adjacent to the station. It is mostly\, though\, through field and woodland to the west of Sevenoaks with very little road walking involved. Some short length undulations but nothing too strenuous but be aware that there are no drop-out points (other than a taxi from the pub). Note that the meal price may be a bit more than usual and with discretionary service charge added.

Freedom Pass Boundary is Elstree & Boreham Wood.  Fare is £7.70 return to Harpenden with Freedom Pass and Senior Rail Card.  Return from St Albans City (on the same line) – trains about every 15 mins. A green and pleasant walk linking one Hertfordshire town with a Hertfordshire City.  Walking through attractive common land\, a country estate and approaching St Albans through the old town passing the Roman museum and remains with a chance to visit the Cathedral.   Good gravel and tarmac paths for about half the walk.

Return trains from Wendover 16.55\, 17.25\, 17.55 (Chiltern Line).  Underground (Met line) every 30 mins. Buy two single tickets. Outward Freedom Pass boundary West Ruislip. Return Freedom Pass boundary Amersham. Leader: Gould 07985 687 800. The panoramic Chilterns are in full view throughout the walk. Once we leave Princess Risborough Station we follow the Icknield Way and Ridgeway via Whiteleaf Hill with brilliant views over Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire plus an Anglo-Saxon burial mound (2.25 miles). After lunch we return to the Ridgeway with marvellous views over Chequers and on to Coomb Hill with a memorial regarding the South African campaigns and then on to Wendover station. Please note the walk will be hilly in parts.

Travel: Waterloo 11.03 to Mortlake 11.24.  This train calls at Clapham Junction at 11.13. Also train from Wimbledon at 10.43 arrives at Mortlake 11.23. All within Freedom Pass boundary. Leader: Ann (07948 500 518 on the day).   From Mortlake we walk down to the Thames\, walk upstream and cross over Chiswick Bridge. We then walk downstream to Barnes for lunch. After lunch we continue our leisurely walk beside the Thames along the Boat Race route in reverse\, passing under Hammersmith Bridge to Putney. No stiles\, and plenty of boating and wildlife activity to keep you entertained en route. \n

Ashtead 10.40 (or Waterloo 9.54 Clapham Junction 10.03 Ashtead 10.32). Return trains two per hour to each of Waterloo and Victoria. Expected walk end 4.00 pm. Freedom Pass boundary Ewell (West & East).  Leader: Richard 07887 556 311 or Linda 07740 876 891. This walk is mostly flat through Ashtead National Nature Reserve and Epsom Common. A few parts may be muddy. There are no stiles but there is one crossing of a main road to get to the pub. We did our recce today a lovely crisp and bright day but as mentioned there was one rather muddy stretch obviously dependent on the weather. Of course the train times might need updating nearer the time. \n

We then walk through Syon Park and on our exit pick up the Thames Path to reach Kew Bridge. There are no stiles and plenty of drop out places on the route.

Travel: Paddington 10.56 (allow time to walk to one of the distant platforms). Return from Slough. Within Freedom Pass boundary. Slough\, TfL trains only – minutes past hour 15\, 26\, 45\, 56. (GWR (fast trains) require a ticket to West Drayton.) Leader: Peter C on the day 07528 716 569. A walk that lacks the challenges that some of us look forward to as it is completely flat – not even a lock gate. For the most part we walk the Slough arm of the Grand Union Canal. The tow path is either tarmacadam or stony but there may be puddles if recent rain. We walk 2.2 miles to The Swan and then 4.8 miles to Slough station. To complete the walk before dusk we must leave The Swan by 14.00. Drop out points at Iver and Langley for train service. If weather is uncertain\, we will make it a circular walk back to West Drayton from The Swan (approx. 3 miles).

After lunch we walk through picturesque countryside via watercress beds on our journey back to Chorleywood with a libation for those suffering from dehydration near the station. There are two moderate climbs\, one morning and one afternoon.

Leader: Marjorie 07547 232 812. After leaving Canada Water the walk goes through Southwark Park\, along Bermondsey Wall to Shad Thames and the historic pub (2 miles). After lunch it crosses Tower Bridge and follows the Ornamental Canal to Shadwell and Limehouse Basins. The walk proceeds to Tower Hamlets’ Cemetery Park which is one of the seven great cemeteries. The walk ends at Mile End Underground Station (Central\, District Lines)\, There are good paths and plenty of drop out points after lunch.
